This is a new experience for children (and grownups!). As a developmental program, we welcome and expect that movers will move and natural observers will soak up the exciting happening around them and try them out at home, each according to their own learning style. Many children begin to participate after a few weeks in class and after hearing the songs at home. Even when they wander or watch they are absorbing the music, gaining the disposition to be a music maker and the message that music is important in your family, just from your model.
YOU are the most powerful magic in supporting your child in becoming a joyful, confident music maker! Just rock, lalala, dance and play along! Don't worry if you think you sing well. Your voice is the sound of love to your child and they LOVE your voice.
Check out the Family Music Zone® and your take home materials for ideas to add music to every day! Dive into the Parent Guide and Musical Growth Chart to learn to spot musical milestones and your child’s characteristic musical gesture. Pick up tips about the fun and easy ways to make music a fun part of daily - and for those challenging moments like transitions, dressing, changing - YOU KNOW ;-} )
Sing about whatever is happening, and to accompany your activities. Make the Music Together® songs your own by including your own words and stories.
Use your song book as a bedtime or story book.
You have made the wonderful choice to introduce your children to the amazing and magical world of music and music making. Your Music Together class is one of the few times during the week that you and your child get to devote yourselves to music. The rest of the week is filled with all the other exciting exploration and experimentation your children do. Here are some tips to most out of your classes.
♦ Please keep talking and socializing to before and after class and phones safely tucked away
Children hear so much talk during the day, and work so hard on language development -- let’s give them a chance to be musically focused in class.
♦ Allow your child to form his/her own style in class.
Some children will quietly observe, and others will actively explore their environment. While that is happening, continue your own musical involvement. You can tap your child, sing along, or even join them in their large motor exploration and create a dance duet.
♦ Make sure your child has a good snack before class.
Many studios don’t allow food, and some children have severe allergies -- crumbs can create problems for an allergic child. Sippy cups and bottles are OK.
